Out of Africa ( south)

... we have explored, Africa is a place where the beauty of the natural world overwhelms, catches you in the throat. You enter a transformative space that fosters an awareness of your astonishing insignificance on the planet. There is a touch of melancholy as we jet north. However, we are extremely fortunate, unfairly privileged and immensely grateful to have glimpsed the southern reaches of this magnificent ...

... up out of the surging swells of the south Atlantic. The air is heavy with swirling marine mist. Fynbos clings to the flanks of the steep slopes. The soundscape is dominated by the thundering rhythmic crash of the surf. Frigid green water washes the sugary white shore. We scamper along the edge of the continent, peering over the dizzying cliffs to the turbulent sea. Smashed Dutch and Portuguese shipwrecks are hidden in the black volcanic reefs below. ...

... right at the top of the valley which looked down the valley. It was a difficult climb into the mountains to reach the waterfall but even there stalls were set up, I don't imagine they get much passing trade. It was much cooler in the valley than in the city when I climbed into the water I got a shock it was so cold, it was freezing! It was lovely to get out of the city for one day as its so hot and busy. It gave us a chance to see how some of the original ...

... such family tragedy. Yet he was a good host through it all, guiding me and my children to our new cosy rather hip bedroom on one of his roof terraces.

Rather than retiring for the night, Jeremy, Loek and I did some night time strolling in the medina, along dimly lit alleys, which are all safe to roam in, Loek assured us, even for a lone woman. We passed cats sexing (all the cats of the medina are pregnant now, Loek informed us). ...

Marrakech – a city that sounds so exotic! And it is.

The city is 'red' in colour – all the buildings are a pinky-red colour. They say that the buildings are this colour as due to the very high temperatures during the summer – up to about 49 degrees Celsius – that this colour is ‘cooler’. If the buildings were whitewashed like Spain, ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Casa Taos Marrakech

Una casa encantadora y una hospitalidad fascinante

    from

    from

After the heat, dust and noise of Marrakech, Casa Taos is a haven of tranquillity: lush gardens, beautiful swimming pool and fabulously furnished rooms. And that's the bad bit. What sets Casa Taos apart from other hotels and guest houses we have visited, is the remarkable hospitality of the owners Isham and Karima. They effortlessly manage to make you feel part of the family whilst never intruding and always happy to provide advice and suggestions (or just a chat).

    Fantastic weekend in Marrakech

    from

We were invited for a magical mystery tour on a friends 40th. They hired Casa Taos for 14 of us although the rooms can be rented individually. What a lovely place! The rooms are huge. The pool is fantastic. The owner, Hicham, together with his wife and 8 staff were

attentive. The food (much grown at the villa) was excellent - Hicham ran a restaurant in Casablanca for 5 years. We had a taxi on call to take those who wanted to go the hustle & bustle of Marrakech (20 minutes) or we could just choose to chill. Highly recommended!

    Bien être et convivialité

    from

Excellent hospitality in most beautiful villa

    from

We spent our holiday at Casa Taos from the end of january through the first week of february '07 and enjoyed the fabulous hospitality in the beautiful house of the Charaï family. Everything about this place is still in our minds, the beautiful house, our superb suite, the large garden, orchard, the pool, the views over the Atlas. We think back with so much pleasure, we recommend a stay to anyone!!

    from
