... the corner of the naval base and a rather odd little collection of military machines and weaponry. Soon after we were back on familiar coastal territory with the Santa Monica Mountains looking radiant off to our left. Cyclists and drivers continued to shout and beep their encouragement, and as we cycled past beautiful sun-drenched cliffs, it was turning out to be a good end to a difficult day's riding. ... I walked the first night in Vegas up and down the strip for about 4 hours. I went into a lot of the casinos, watched the Bellagio water show at the front of their casino and people watched all along the strip. Viva Las Vegas ! While in Las Vegas, besides the usual visiting of all casinos and walking the strip, I managed to go and see Hoover Dam and Valley of the Fire. Both attractions were so worth while doing. I love engineering documentaries and a long time ago ...

... north in search of Pfeiffer Beach where we planned to watch the sunset. After locating the unmarked road, CC twisted and turned down the windy narrow passageway which brought us to the parking lot. December is a special time at this beach as it's the only time of year when the sunset aligns perfectly to shine its rays through a sea cave just off the shore. The sand throws off a purple hue, due to the ground coral fragments reflecting its glow. It was a very special ...
