Transition from Tourist to Tour Guide

A travel blog entry by haleycheetham

... I was back in elementary school and they had signed up to be our chaperones for the day. They explored even more ruins by finally making it to Pompeii on Saturday. I unfortunately couldn’t make it with them on this trip as I was battling a cold all week and desperately needed some time to sleep. I was very impressed with their abilities to get on the train, purchase the tickets, and discover a whole town of ruins ...

Millyard's vs the Hotel and exploring!

A travel blog entry by millys77

... I could easily find the train station and we could check times for Pompeii and for our trip to Naples/Rome on Thursday. After two wrong turns and eventually having to admit defeat and turn round twice I found the station on the third attempt. Seems it will be pretty easy to find Pompeii by train and to get to Naples Thursday. ... over. Today, many of it's treasures are in museums worldwide. But, the basic Pompeii, it's streets and lifestyle remain to be seen. And we saw them! Really a highlight of our trip for ML. The bus terminated at Amalfi so we dropped our bags at the Deposito bagagli and headed off to explore the little town for a while. The town piazza was a lovely place to have lunch. Opted for risotto, getting a bit sick of pasta (sorry Eliott). The ...

That's Amore!

... in 1944. The big buster however was in 77AD and buried Pompeii. The town itself is clearly a tourist spot with great character and many restaurants in tiny alleyways and on cobblestone streets. Shops galore, pity not much time for shopping. Much merriment and music fills the streets as saxophonists and men playing piano accordions fill the alleyways with the dulcet tones guessed it Dean Martin's old jingle That's amoreeeeee.
