      Another day, another port. The Dominican Republic is the eastern side of the island of Hispaniola. The western side is Haiti. We docked at a port called La Romana. There are a few different things you can do here. We chose to visit some caves call Cueva de las Miravillas (the cave of miracles). It was a great option because we got to see a bit of the countryside, we had a very good taxi driver who told us a bit about the island life ...

      ... and said goodbye to the group. Feel sad to leave the group as they have been great and made me feel more than welcome here. I've had a mixed time here, at times it's been difficult to arrange IT lessons with the group and so difficult to find things to keep myself busy, but when I could work with them it was great and they are really enthusiastic and work extremely hard! I've definitely learnt a lot about the difficult living situation in the bateyes and managed to carry ...

      ... to my 1st family's house - to visit Elena. She invited us for supper one day, and of course she prepared a feast for 10 people, as always! We had a really nice visit with her, and I felt so happy to be with her once again, talking and laughing...she is ALWAYS picking on me because she thinks I don't eat anything - and she says this to anyone who will listen and laughs heartily when I fight back!

      ... be ready to dive in to any and all of these projects. I think that they will end up spending most of the time in the garden, though, as that is where they need the most help!       ... one from 8-12, another from 1-5 or 2-6, and a last one from 6-10 at night. Most students attend either the morning or the afternoon session, but the 6-10 classes are offered to those students who have to work during the day to help their families survive, or who are taking care of sick or elderly family members while others are at work during the day, etc. My classes are always in the morning timeslot, which could not have worked out better ...
