... blessed with 80% shadow area thanks to the beautiful tall trees that filled the areas of the dance floors. The port-a-loo situation was bad and toilet paper was a valuable commodity. There is lots of tax free cash to be made on the European festival circuit. The afternoon rolled around quickly and it was time to hit the dance floor for Ace Ventura, a good, funky, progressive psytrance DJ from Israel who we had enjoyed previously in Brazil. Somebody stole our water suply ...

My uncle and my aunt came to pick us up, at the arrival of the train (before 6am). As we wanted to have a coffee with a delicious Portuguese pastry, but as the coffee shops were not yet opened, we went to see the sunrise from the front of the cathedral.

amazingly beautiful area with a river running thru green hills, dotted with small portugese white washed villages and vineyards which are dug into the siderd of teh hills. the rain didn't stop us from doing a couple of winery tours and climbing up 600 odd steps to see a beautiful church.... although we did find ourselves inside bars and bakeries samling portugals finest ports and pastries .... and the chinese restaurant of course (habits die hard).

Pushing my limits

... staying in, bought provisions for the next three days (cheese, bread, sausage, and some chocolate), and psyched myself up for my latest adventure. My first day on the road I was going from Covilha to Penhas de Saude, the first town in the park. A lot of it was along the road and I found myself dodging honking cars as I tried to enjoy the scenery. Of course, not quite so much of the hike was supposed to be on the road, but I would say that I was lost about 60% of the time ...

Apparently influenced by the trading that Portugal did back in the day with China, the exploration, and when Portugal was gifted Macau by China many years ago. Portugal apparently had a lot of colonies in Asia centuries ago, so that was intersting to learn. The founding monarch Joao V´ personal collection. 3,000,000 in total. It was like out of a movie. WWOOFING IN PORTUGAL

... And, a bare sand courtyard paves the center of one of Europe's oldest universities and is bordered by luminous class halls on three sides and by a survey of the city it soars over on its fourth. Adam and Clem were very drunk, running around Coimbra streets and doing silly things. Among those silly things, they drove us for forty-five minutes home to Adam's place. "Just a little farther, Clem!" I yelled to the driver. "If anyone can get us home ...

... airport. Guimaraez is next door's university town, but somehow friendlier than Braga, with a shopping center and a movie theater and plenty of parties for comfort. Back in Uli's dark little cell, we vow to go back to those Portuguese beaches while they're still as nice as they are now, unspoiled and without disgusting high-rise buildings that unfortunately have begun to sprout along the coast line.
