... then boarded the next ferry to Sorrento. More gorgeous scenery followed.

At Sorrento, we disembarked and went to our hotel, a rather fancy place which is the opposite of our homey digs in Salerno. More on that in a day or two. We took it easy in Sorrento today, and tomorrow we are headed for Pompeii and more victorious Romans, but this time ben cotto. Buona notte!

... with 20 feet of volcanic debris. We had some pizza and pasta in Pompeii, and then boarded the bus for a beautiful, scenic drive to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. The views were as lovely as seen in many pictures, but being there, more fantastic. We stopped at the charming and scenic town of Sorrento, visited the little shops, and had a taste of an after dinner liquor called limoncello made from the huge local lemons. We had our first experience of a very fast train for our trip from Rome to Naples. The train was very comfy and got up to a speed of 300km/hr which meant our trip only took an hour. We arrived at Naples train station and found our way to the local line only encountering one `helpful elderly gentleman`. The local train from Naples to Sorrento was very different.
