Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

We are the only walkers on the track and because we love it so much (and we are very lost) we decide to include an extra walk which takes us even higher up the mountain. It is all worth it even though I did go through ...

    French rail strike

... well, I am trying to move on. At a minimum I will say that the train through the alps was beautiful. And Laussane sits in a lake right at the foot of the alps. May be worth a stop someday. Off to cinque terre tomorrow after a morning in Milan. It was 90 degrees here today, kind of a shock after cold London and cool paris. Going to rain for 4-5 days... Oh well, catching up on our reading!! Love you all. Sorry about no pictures. Tomorrow!! ...
