Week One in Oaxaca, MX

... Through couchsurfing, we were fortunate to meet a great couple (half American, half Danish), who have been here nearly one year.

Since I've been busy trying to get settled, I haven't taken many photos yet; I hope to post more soon, hopefully capturing the upcoming festivities. Fireworks have already become a regular occurrence after dark, and the holidays are still a week away.

Adios, Primera Semana..Excuse my Spanish-slaughter

... and there are a great bunch of folks staying alongside us.  Last night was filled with flamenco guitar picking, dancing, cerveza con limon of course, great conversation, and even a little trampolining.  It’s a home away from home.  As I’m still in recovery from last night’s debauchery, I’ll have to add more at a later time.  I’m starting to feel like another week’s time here could never be enough.  I feel like I’m already ready to book my next trip.

... introduced to them through Dave and Donna, but we spent a lot of time with them during my 4 month stay here. I specifically spent a great deal of time working on Splash Kingdom with Sandy. She was in charge of it, and she recruited me to help out with it. Splash Kingdom was definitely my biggest commitment the last 2 months I was down here, so I spent a lot of time with ...

... mapa más guay del mundo. En el Museo de la Ciudad, hay dos mapas interactivos y aéreos, uno de la ciudad en 1990 y uno de la ciudad en 2006. Se iluminan mientras caminas sobre ellos. Well, that's Oaxaca. In two days, I´ll be in Mexico City finishing up my trip. Can't wait! Pues eso es Oaxaca. En dos días estoy en DF terminando mi viaje. ¡No puedo esperar!

Grasshoppers and chocolate pizza

... delicious, or more specifically, the cheese. Big wheels of mild stringy queso oaxaqueño are proudly displayed in the city markets alongside pigs trotters and fried grasshoppers, and can be consumed on their own (my preferred method), or more maturely, in a oaxacan pizza style creation- Tlayudas, giant toasted tortillas with mole (chocolate chile sauce) and cheese. Mmmmmm.

Oaxaca

... was so expensive, Isaac helped us catch a local bus instead. Once on the bus and asking fellow passengers where exactly we should get off for El Tule, I once again was grateful that the Mexican men were nothing like the Cubans as we were the only two tourists on the bus. Everyone on the bus was so willing to help. The reason for the stop at El Tule, is that it boasts having one of the oldest and biggest living things on earth, a tree over 2000 years old ...

Tequila and Foam

Oy! Viva Mexico indeed. Last night was the celebration of Mexican Independance Day. We were rushing out last night as I finished up the last entry to start our celebration. Marald, Monica, and myself met up with Pete and his friends Andrew and Jordi (both from New Zealand, very tall, blonde, we call Andrew "McConaughey" because he looks like he could be Matthew McConaughey´s stunt double and Jordi is a tall gorgeous blonde chick - they're both very funny and ...

Hi all, We have arrived back in the UK now, but it seemed silly to do all these blog entries and not have an entry for the last month of the trip, plus i have the luxury of writing it on my computer with fast internet! Plus its easier for people to see the highlights on the blog rather than us boring you with 5000 photos we took! After leaving Cancun we headed to Merida. Merida is Yucatan's capital. We found a nice hotel near the centre of town, which was an old colonial building ...

Cooking and Yoga

... get drinks after. Finally I have something planned. Today after school they give free cooking classes which is just helping our chef cook, all I had to do was peel potatoes and dice them. We made this mush with potatoes, tomatoes, and onions then rolled the mush in tortillas, then she fried them. After that you put salsa, cheese, and lettuce on top. It's like a taquito. Also today we have yoga at 5 but that cost 50 pesos which is 5 dollars, so I'm going. I walked ...

Oaxaca rocked!!
