... back after about an hour as we knew we had the long walk back up the hill to come! Turns out it wasn't that bad, it was quite a steady hill but very long, and I was pretty tired by the time we got back, although a vaguely warm shower helped. Sat watching more dodgy films, and the hotel gave us all a little snack of chicken which was really nice, before pasta for dinner and back to the fire and then an early ...
... didn't have any change. Drove onto Chimanimani hotel, where I had a freezing cold shower and a warm up in front of their fire. Dinner was sausages, beans and toast, and we went back into the bar to sit in front of the fire, play cards and watch weird films like flatlinwrs and escape from LA. Layered up for bed - leggings, joggers, thermal top, top and 2 fleeces, so hopefully I can get a good nights ...
... Everyone else came back after abit, but I don't think we missed much. Put some layers on as it gets cold quickly, although my washing was done from the sun during the day. Had steak dinner again, just as good second time round! Despite the lay in was tired again, and still feel ill, so ended up in bed about 9, while some of the others ended up playing drinking games ...
Our journey to get here was fascinating in itself. I have discovered how Malawian reluctance to give refunds is actually a powerful bargaining tool, and that sadly there are very few people who genuinely ask how you are and mean it if you look like a tourist. Cape Maclear is such a beautiful place. It is extraordinary being at the edge of the huge Lake Malawi, complete with island sunsets. Such a contrast though are the group of young boys swarming ...
