... locking down the other day. He was reloading his barge at the pulp mill, no doubt preparing to monopolize the locks again. But, as one is reminded over and over, this is a commercial canal built for commercial barges and we recreational boaters are merely tolerated. The fourth, fifth and sixth lock downs went well enough but the wind was starting to pick up making it a challenge to tie off in the last lock. ... he has been camping on the river for 8 days and was going to go into town to a motel for the night. We were going to use the marina courtesy car to restock groceries and volunteered to drop him off. We had some steak left over and had him on board for a treat. Today was our fastest and best day on the road except for our flat tire on US 45. Disappointed that Ernest B's Restaurant was closed for dinner last night, we waited for the rain to stop this morning because we absolutely had to move on, and just because... we already gave up an extra night at that 'could have had fun, spa-like' Holiday Inn Express.
