    ... We do not disagree. Unfortunately for us they were engaged in restorative work on the exterior front. The inside was pristine. The church is rich with paintings and frescoes. In fact Mike (aka Michelangelo) reviewed the ceiling and wall art before painting the Sistine Chapel. Bird is also especially impressed with the alternating black and white stone work.     ... has been steel rod reinforcements placed into some of the most crumbly parts to halt the decline , but engineers estimate they need about €10million to reinforce the whole town,not likely to happen in cash strapped Italy.

    I just hope they can do something as this village is like a tiny green jewel, suspended in time.

    ... far away for lunch. This town is called Vertine and we are promised a beautiful lunch - and indeed it was!!!! We both had pasta with an amazing mushroom and truffle sauce. It was very creamy and very rich but beautifully flavoured and well balanced. We tasted it all afternoon but so what!! We are sitting outside enjoying the sunshine, local bread, wine and cheese.
