... friend who spent the day driving me around the area. Took an elevator up to the old railroad trestle that spends the Hudson River and is not a Walkway across the Hudson. Visited the National Culinary School which is in an old monastery. Walked the property in Hyde park of FDR and drove by Val Kill, Eleanor's cottage, and the Vanderbilt house. Then drove to the Highlands area and - voila - the sun came out. ...

We waited until shortly before 10am to escape from NYC/NJ traffic to a little calmer territory. It was a little easier than we thought to maneuver the freeway system north to above Yonkers to avoid the gridlock and craziness. It is amazing to get into the countryside of New York where it seems so peaceful and beautiful.
