... be in the land of miles for some time so I reset it to measure in miles. That way it'll take a bit longer to click over to zero again.

After driving through Bigfork, the nice shoulder on the road disappeared again. This time though, there was no abuse, only patient drivers. I don't know what the difference was, maybe it was the beautiful Flathead Lake we were skirting. The lake is over 50 mile long and at its widest about 10 miles across. It ...

It was a rather quiet threesome who left the hotel at 7.15 this morning. We got onto the I-15 for aboout 30 miles until the town of Blackfoot, where we turned onto the 26 and then the 20 as far as Arco. From here we took the 20 the18 miles to the Craters of the Moon national park, where there is a vast and most impressive lava field, likened by some to the surface of the ...

First thing this morning we looked out the window and saw some really different looking birds...good sized black birds with bright yellow heads and breasts. Not having a clue what we were looking at, we asked our next door neighbor what in the heck they were, and he said they are yellow headed black birds! Who knew (Marian H. of course, but who else?)! They were really striking looking birds and fun to watch...they almost seemed to waddle as they walked. Our ...

... the Univeristy and do paintings, jewelry, etc. I really do not need more stuff, but it was fun to stroll! There are even musicians here and there at the market entertaining the crowd. The downtown area has pianos placed along the streets (chained) so that people can just sit down and play. How fun!

After a short lunch break back at the house, we were off downtown to the ...

        Day 15: 2165 miles

        Sunday through Wednesday, June 15-18

It was fall 1992, my first quarter in the graduate program in nutrition at UC Davis. I was, like all the other newbies, enrolled in the required "how to be a graduate student" course. The instructor was a lovely man who explained how the program worked, what the oral exams were like (and crucial hint: how to choose your orals committee), and other necessary information.
