We checked out of Mountain View Grand this morning. What a mess trying to get the luggage to the car. The hotel is big and has one elevator which has an operator so you have to call for it to come from your room. We did not do that the first time and took some stuff down. Mom does not travel light. I guess I see where I get it from. I have been trying hard to minimize the last few years but Mom has so much stuff it's insane. ...

... took us to Waterbury, where regrettably we didn't have time today to do the Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory Tour. Maybe tomorrow? Then northwards to the leafy and exclusive surroundings of Stowe, a ski resort for much of the year and home to some very swanky homes and clubs. Our motel has a beautiful setting by the river among trees and a cut above yesterday's poorish stopover. Supper at Gracie's in Stowe and back to bed and more medication. ...

Set off bright and early on glorious sunny but chilly day and drove south west on a dead straight freeway for two hours. Only saving grace was the colourful scenery, the leaves all colours from green to yellow to red to brown to purple! We then went off onto smaller roads and followed Lake Champlain down over bridges and islands - so pretty. Stopped at a typical diner and had a huge breakfast-like meal ...

Just doesn't get any better than starting your day by going to a Ben & Jerry's factory and tasting ice cream. What a success story. We really enjoyed the tour of the factory. I was surprised to learn they freeze all of the ingredients before they put them in the ice cream. If they would not do that, the items would just blend in with the ice cream. Our sample was a caramel ice cream with caramel and chocolate swirls ...

... to shop for alcohol because this state doesn't have any extra tax, everywhere else we have been up to now the price on the goods has always been plus tax. You never seem to know what the cost is going to be because each has it's own taxes that they add on at the end. It's a bit like VAT but not as well organised.
