... you can't have too many of these or you'd be crawling around NO. It's pretty cool how you can walk the streets with your drinks. When we walked down Bourbon Street, I again visualized how it would be during Mardi Gras....it's really something to see. ... bothersome in this area -- no-see-ums (except that you CAN see them!). They are a real pain -- both literally and figuratively. These obnoxious tiny biting flies (some people call them biting midges or sand flies) are all mouth and no body. Only the females bite and suck blood from some kind of host (i.e., YOU) -- they need the protein in blood to make their eggs. Male no-see-ums are nectar feeders and do not bite. Go figure . . . ...

They made it the first night "at sea"! It sounds like they had a pretty rough time of it though. They ran over a crab trap someone had out in the channel, but they got it free and motored on until they dropped anchor and tried to sleep. However, it doesn't sound like any of them got enough rest so hopefully they'll be able to do better later today or tonight. I think the plan is to sleep in shifts.

... through a long area of trapped water from the same storm that flooded New Orleans. The workers had a pump running, but it was a slow process. The roadway was restricted to only one lane. At least we got Shorty’s wheels washed… if the water hadn’t been so dirty!


The park, Buccaneer State Park was virtually wiped out by Katrina. It has a wonderful water park, but as of now, no water. They are waiting for funds ...
