... using their carts far too much, which cause noise and you need to make way for them on the paths. My favourite animals were the elephant nosed shrew, the black and white animal, the prairie dogs and the monkey that had an old man face. The baby orang-utan was also very cute. We began our day in Illinois, but it didn't take us long to cross the river into Iowa. As we passed through the Quad Cities, we passed important points along the way, using our 1949 American Guide to tell us the background.

The day started off with the solo group heading out at 0600 to get some miles down before it got too hot. Their plan in a manner of speaking as it did not get hot today all of the way to Interior, SD. The "Chuck Wagons" got underway some what later with a 0730 start time and managed to arrive at the destination within 45 minutes of the solos. Hoo-hah!
