I had absolutely no desire to get stuck and stationary on I-17 for god knew how long … so I took the 169 Dewey-Humboldt turnoff, which would connect to 69 and go through Prescott and over the mountain after all. What's next? I asked Susan. Her reply was that we should drive the Burr trail. The turn off was just back down the highway, about a half mile. Rob had advised me that we could drive about 20 miles until the pavement ended. The road continues beyond that all the way to Capitol Reef NP and then on to Lake Powell at Bullfrog.

... There was a bit of a mix-up when people were given the wrong checks, but this was soon cleared up. When we walked back to the parking lot, the sky above was so star-spangled it was breathtaking, with Milky Way draping across the firmament – an inky-black canopy with a gazillion glittering stars. It was easy to pick out the constellations. Now we just drove back to town to our respective accommodation … and other great, exciting day in wonderful company over.
