The next day we woke up and headed out towards the Statue of Liberty. We took our first ride in a yellow cab to get to the ferry terminal. The cab was driven by a big African man who appeared to be wearing a carpet and eating a banana sandwich. The ferry was crowded and overpriced but it was worth it in the end to see the statue. I thought it was quite apt as she symbolises freedom and was originally intended to welcome travellers ...
I'm reeling from the disappointment of just having lost all the videos I took today--- still trying to get my head wrapped around this Go Pro technology. Other than that, a great third day. I spent the morning setting up this blog at the main public library in town (gotta love libraries for all the outlets... and internet without the alluring smells of McDonald's or Starbucks). Then I headed to an amazing-looking doughnut shop that unfortunately failed ...
... landed us in Warren, Ohio where we bought some dinner at a supermarket that we warmed up in the microwave of the hotel room. We do this a lot actually. Most supermarkets have a fresh salad bar or ready to go take-home meals. It saves time, money . . . and calories.
... Growing up as a kid of a Vietnam Veteran could be pretty lonely at times. We have our own special understanding of what it means to have a Vietnam Veteran parent, including the ups and the downs, the sadness and the good times. We have finally found camaraderie, we know we are no longer alone.
