... than 20 miles down the road. After breakfast, I got back on I 84S. Shortly after I crossed the state line for New York, I passed another exit 19 and noticed a diner beside the road. I think that was the exit that Shannon actually intended for me to take as it was about an hour away. Good thing she was tied up elsewhere as we would have had breakfast together at different diners. Ha ha

Well, it turns out this was an important transportation route back in the late 1700s. Wagons carrying supplies to folks across the mountain had to stop here and the supplies were put on pack horses to carry across the mountain--and Buchanan's dad ran a trading post here. Gettin' around wasn't easy back then...

Nearby are a couple of plaques that try to put Buchanan's life and presidency in a positive light putting the blame on the media ...

... which was fantastic. We saw the Apollo 11 landing module, touched some moon rock and saw the actual Wright Brothers plane! There were many other highlights which were too many to mention. Considering it was free to enter we couldn't have asked for more. We also popped in briefly to the natural history museum, and looked at the Hope Diamond, the largest in the world. After this we had a healthy lunch of houmous, pretzel pieces and pizza flavoured ...

DC was a perfect convergence. Realized on our way in that our dear friend Heaven Edwards, who had taken the train from SF to New York for the peoples climate march, was already couch surfing in the DC area, so she joined us for our DC explorations, or rather our stroll down memory lane. Met up with old friends from the fund at a mainstay of the DC canvass office, la plaza, for fajitas y margaritas, ...
