Miracle Drug(s)

... daily drug; both drugs are comparable in price/pill, making Mefloquin far cheaper and preferable if the side effects can be tolerated. The kids haven't had a trial yet as we are awaiting test results to be sure that they can take Mefloquin safely before trying it.

Not a bundle of fun, but thanks to the wonders of modern medicine we can brave the world with a little less trepidation than otherwise might have been the case.

No Bears in Edmonton, but great hospitality!

... and with little faith that any team could come back in 30 seconds I told Dana that I was going to the toilet and that we could go if she wanted. I think we were both quite tired because she was wating outside the stadium seating for me when I came back and so we left. On the way out of the carpark we heard a hug roar from the crowd and a man sitting in a car then told us that the Eskimo's had scored a touch down and were in the lead. Not long after we heard another roar when the ...

Where the buffalo roam

... br>I was charmed however by the coyotes in the night. Coyotes are grey fox-like creatures which I love and North Americans regard as vermin. They can be quite vocal at night making a high pitched and, I think, quite melodic yipping noise.

The next morning was cold but calm and beautiful. Stems of plants were covered in brilliant ice crystals that doubled the diameter of the stem, and glowed in the morning sun. A good photographer could have based an exhibition ...

MMMMM Bacon!!!!! were home :(

... Its a really cool city. The View from the EYE was amazing. It was a pretty clear night by British standards so we could see a long way. The funniest part of London for me was how early it shut down. Much like Edmonton the stores and that close at 8 or 9 during the week. Cairo on the other hand doesn't get moving till dark and closes at 3 am or later! p.s. were posting one more blog for Cairo with a couple videos from our last night there.

My Voice My Vote - Use it or Lose it

... desperately waited for some sign. I was sure I would be able to see some signal of whom I should choose. But alas, nothing. So failing some divine intervention, I had to rely on my gut. And my gut wasn't talking. So then I just figured that I would go for the women on the list because they had obviously worked hard to get onto the ballot. As far as I knew, politics and jobs in government are male dominated. Women, in general, have had to try harder ...

... up and reached in. With some contortions I managed to reach it. Whew. Back in the car. BACK on the road yet again. At the next vista, I noticed the car was running kind of rough. Hmmm, no engine light. Not hot. The only thing I did recently, was to fill up with gas. GOD! I hope there wasn't any water in the gas. Can't see or feel anything wrong except it's running kind of rough. Decide to keep driving and see if it smooths out. All the way ...

School Begins: Life on the Road Ends

If it wasn't clear from the posts I wrote in China, the ones oozing with frustration, and then the absence of anything further, it's because I walked over my proverbial cliff. I had planned to spend three and a half months exploring China and the surrounding countries. After three weeks I was fed up and didn't want to do it anymore. I cracked the day in Nanjing that I spent going to and from the bus station to get a ticket to Qingdao for the ...

The Pan-Am Games

... quarter (more like an NBA score!). Then however, as the star Canadian player got tired (Gabriele was her name I think), production declined and the Brasilians ended up winning 82-67 or something. I had fun making a general ass of myself in the crowd though, wearing my red Tshirt with a white paper maple leaf taped to the front and back. My favourite was to wait until there were a bunch of Brasilians cheering in front of a TV camera then to jump in behind ...

Chillaxin in the Mountains

The weekend went by at a leisurely pace. Nothing major stood out except for the greek food and the yoga class. The class was different than the kind I am used to but some of the postures were similar. I didn't really feel challenged at all and though the instructor was nice, she didn't seem very positive. She kept talking about how terrible she felt and how she just didn't know what was going on. It was a strange experience but I just did my best to maintain my ...

We all have to start somewhere

... quite a sight to see a grown man in this hamster like state. I thanked Ricky, the instructor for the great class as he said goodbye to me. I did admit that it was far better than yesterday when I was sure he had it in for us. He smiled and chuckled a bit knowingly. I am sure I am not the first nor the last to say such a thing. I guess there is something to be said for conditioning. Grateful for beginners.
