When we finally found the place Linda checked with the dood on the front desk and he advised it would cost $146 a night.......We should have advised we didn't need the penthouse, but that was the final price.
After hearing this we decided to sit down in the foyer and log on and check wotif........not a huge selection but a bit cheaper. While logged on I thought I'd check the hotel we were in and it was $99 a night ...

... and the USD continues to be the funding currency of choice for risk-seeking FOREX investors. Expectations of a near-term Fed tightening policy have faded following the FOMC minutes release yesterday. Plus Asian central banks are expected to keep buying dips in the EURUSD to diversify USD reserves.

The EURUSD will likely continue to take cues from global risk appetite, but in the short-term, it ...

Our flight to Paris and Pere Lechaise Cemetery

Our flight, as with most of the European flights I've been on, leaves Washington about 5:30 PM and arrives there first thing in the morning. This was no exception, leaving at 5:29 PM and arriving in Paris at about 6:30 AM Paris time. This flight was much different from the last flight we took over there. Then, coach in the next to last row (Spam in a can). This time, business class, thanks to my large numbers of flights to Calgary last year.

Fun in DC

So far I have yet to be bored this entire summer. I thought I'd start making a list of everything I do around the East Coast while I'm here doing my internship.

Washington DC

When first arriving to DC I was lucky to have a roommate who didn't start until May 18th as well. She had previously been to DC so she showed me the ropes of the Metro and helped me get my bearings. We went to the Natural History and American History Museum ...

... and the layout of the building was very unique. There was even a rain forest area where you could walk up steps and be among some of the higher plants.

After the gardens, we went to the Lincoln Memorial and the World War II Memorial, my personal favorite. We relaxed at this last stop while the sun went down --- it was beautiful!

... with the other undesirables trying to gain entry to the USA. We waited while the three border guards chatted amongst themselves, pausing once in a while to allow someone from the group to enter. Eventually, after showing our ticket to Guatemala and promising not to overstay our welcome in the US we were allowed in. Thank goodenss he didn't check my bag - I would probably have been sent right back on the next flight ...

... the building and used their fire ladders to put out the fire. We left long before it was over, but could see they were getting it under control. Very cool. We returned to shopping by Union Square, checking out a variety of discount and chain stores. We bought some blown glass knobs for our cabinet in our living room at Anthropology and then at ABC Home, Korinne ...

... not have metered taxis in Washington DC. Mindful of being ripped off and knowing that we should only have to pay about $6 USD we left the taxi drivers to it and walked to the train station. Unfortunately it began pouring with rain and we ended up at the hotel dripping wet but having saved $10 bucks. Oh well you can't win them all. The saving grace of the day was finding Popeye's Chicken and Biscuits for dinner and eating a whole box of biscuits to ourselves. Yum!

... show being filmed so we got to see a bit of that, it stars Alec Baldwin and some other sitcom guy - i hadn't a clue who he was but Joe recognised him. After that we headed to Tavern on The Green - its in Central Park and is a quite posh restaurant covered in wee lanterns outside. When we were there we happened to walk into a culinary fest so got loads of the finest food and wine for free - happy days, thats ...
