... cops on horseback made sure people were off the street a half hour later. We were beat and had New Orleans tomorrow so we called it a night, said goodbye to Ilya and passed out.

Before leaving Austin the next day we went to Rudy's Gas Station BBQ and got a tank of gas and some of the best BBQ on the trip. While I came into Texas thinking I just couldn't wait to get out, I will admit that the people and places were a lot of fun. Next up, NOLA.

... lead singer. She played uke as well. Standup base, drums and a guy who played keyboard, horn and accordion. They do have youtube videos. Really cool standup area to watch the band. I think I'm back there tomorrow to see Mike and the Moonpies.

When you cross the rusty old bridge across the Sabine river into Texas, the speed limit on the highway jumps to 70 (from 55). You get the message quickly. On the Louisiana side of the river is a park commemorating some Confederate breast works (with confederate flags flying). On the Texas side the marker talks about Burr's ferry, there long before the bridge and operated initially by the Vice President's second cousin. This road from Leesville LA to Livingstone TX ...
