... We passed Houston, where we encountered four separate bumper-bashings that caused tailbacks down the freeway. The first and most severe we managed to avoid by taking a parallel road, and fortunately the others were clearing by the time we reached them.

We reached Columbus, Texas rather later than we had hoped. Our hotel was opposite Sally's Steakhouse, so we retired thereto for a well-earned meal and a beer or two.

    Another poorly bike day!

... bike gives up soon after. A two hour wait and we load the bike again onto the back of the support vehicle.

We continue on our bikes for the 200 miles still to do and get to our hotel at columbus at about 730. Interesting doing battle on the maze of roads around Houston, but we get through, despite the heavy traffic.

A quick shower and a nice steak at a nearby restaurant. A tiring long day - sleep beckons.

... to our bikes the rain had...dare I say it...STOPPED! (PS: Two days after we visited Wemberly, the Blanco River overflowed its banks in very heavy rain and 20 residents were lost in the ensuing flood.)

We thanked our tour guide and stowed our rain armor as fast as we could. We wanted to start riding again while it was nice out. So, we headed northwest to Johnson City, TX. Why not? We were in the area.

... and they arranged a person (Tess) to come out and open up the house for us at 10am. We could not believe all the shelves and shelves of Santas when we walked in ! It took us an hour of gazing and marveling before we called it a day.
