... want to do and our budget.

We book into a lovely quiet apartment overlooking meadows of wildflowers in the town of Ribcev Laz for 3 nights. Our first day is spent on a walk of 4 hour circumnavigating the lake which includes a enchanting forest walk. Again we think we are fit and fabulous until we meet a group of antique walkers that are racing along the path. They put us to shame as they race along chattering in allsorts ...

... We drove to Skocjan Caves which was amazing!! and Chris drove stick shift very successfully- woohoo! Slovenia is a really underrated country- it is absolutely stunning and the people are just so kind! This may be my favorite place now on our trip. We just made it to Ljubljana this evening, did some exploring around the river and had a great dinner at a cute tapas bar close by. More to come soon from ...

There is a service bus that goes from Bled to Bohinj, but we had foolishly as it turned out, been persuaded that the ski cable car at Mount Vogel was a "must do" and was easiest to do as a half day trip(€31pp). There are about 12 people from our hotel who had been similarly advised so we get the bus and it is about 45 minutes of a very pleasant drive to Bohinj, a bigger lake than Bled but much ...

Our first full day, so after an OK buffet breakfast we walk the 3 minutes along the promenade to where the tourist bus to Vintgar Gorge and Bled Castle leaves. The bus runs once a day at 10am getting to the gorge at 10.30 where it waits and returns at 12.30. It costs €2.30 to the gorge or €1.80 to the castle. Today we are heading to the Gorge and it is wonderful! Firstly the bus goes halfway round ...

... short trip to this tiny capital city. Dead on time our transfer arrives, again it is only the two of us and a private taxi. It takes only just over 30 minutes to drive to Lake Bled and the Park Hotel right on the lakeside. It is a Yugoslav era spa hotel, currently undergoing a fair amount of renovation. It is obviously used extensively by tour groups, there are notices in reception from at least three companies. Our room is not facing ...
