... to take us to the start of the trail. Just as we jumped off the bus to start our walk, we bumped into a girl called Nadia who was dressed almost identically to Ness – what are the chances!!

... to spot a bear and when the park ranger said there had been sightings near the road the previous two days, we all pressed our noses against the windows and stared into the woods and meadows surrounding us.

The drive down to the reservoir was beautiful. The Hetch Hetchy Valley is stunning, and although not quite as majestic as Yosemite Valley, it benefits from the fact that not many visitors bother to go see it as it is probably an hour and fifteen minutes drive ...

... curtains instead of 1. Paradise B&B Coulterville Found it at the end of some tiny weaving country back roads. We weren't really sure it existed until the lady came out to greet us. Really nice lady named Arlyn who opened the place in October. Basically a house with ensuite bedrooms. Best shower yet. Wicked complementary toiletries including a nice moisturiser that fell out of my pockets as we were saying goodbye. Shared a king because we were both too stubborn ...

... day. We headed south and east from Sequoia. We saw many citrus groves, gas and oil wells, a mountain range of windmills, and many freight trains heading both east and west.

Our route ran parallel to Route 66. We travelled through the Mojave Desert where we saw several small sandstorms. After 8 hours of driving we stopped in Needles, California by the Colorado River near the Arizona border. Off to the Grand Canyon area ...
