So Chelsea and I started our trip off with a bang. We flew to a different continent where ************e spoke english fluently (although most people seemed to know enough to get by), and were faced with so many throngs of people that we felt like cattle being herded, people on the streets trying to sell us tailor-made suits, and intimidating-looking menus that we couldn't understand. At least there were still starbucks and "Mc Cafés" around! hee hee! We stayed on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong...
Hong Kong, China aussiegirl13Arriving into Hong Kong by high speed hydrofoil would probably be the most spectacular way of entering this unique financial centre. The views of the harbour, bridges and towering skyline are fantastic. I took it upon myself to go outside onto the vessel's stern to take a couple of photos which turned out to be a big no-no and I was quickly called back inside. On arrival at the ferry terminal we transferred to our hotel by taxi. The weather, as you can imagine, is normally very humid and this...
Well. First stop Hong Kong, China. Yes China.A 9 hour flight from Melbourne out the way and we landed at Hong Kong airport at 10:30pm. Straight to Kowloon to roll in for the night. Well you would think so. We get to the Mirador Mansion in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, to be told "check in too late, you no ring me". Even though I had emailed twice and rang once! So after 20 minutes the lady found us a room, in the block nextdoor - the dreaded Chungking Mansion. When still at home, Stace and I did ev...

... decker bus the impatient driver decided to take off early leaving Mum scrambling on her hands and knees up the remaining steps, shouting oh Gary! :-), defiantly Beeb Sheet No.6.
The rest of the day was spent on a very enjoyable trip to the other side of HK island by bus to Stanley. The area has a very different relaxed feel and has a nice little harbor and a fine beach where mum couldn't resist dripping her feet ...
... bus to get us to our lovely hotel. We crossed the longest suspension bridge in the world on our way in and got to see Hong Kong lit up in the evening. We managed to check in, take a quick shower and head out for dinner before we got too tired. Dinner was at a shifty Thai, Indian, Japanese, French combo restaurant. After filling up on curries and mussels we headed back for a good nights’ rest.
More from Hong Kong tomorrow!
... of sh!t stains) at the same place we met a chap from bristol called George who i used to work with at uni, small world, some pandas who liked eating a lot, and went on some rapid rollercoasters! on the way back to HK central from one of the islands, we timed it just right and watched a stunning sunset from the side of the boat...
Hong Kong, China gingergalactico... the believed to be a lucky colour in China and also accented with gold for prosperity. We went back to the room for some crisp and a beer and then set off over to the parade route. The route was already cordoned off with metal barriers and the road was blocked off for traffic on both sides. We waiting for hours on the left hand side of the road as the crowds started to gather. An English couple came with 3 small children (two of ...
Hong Kong, China oldhamguy... counter went to pull up my reservation and reported to me that it had been canceled on January 10. So I booked another room then and there (it ended up being cheaper, anyway.) A bellboy escorted me with my luggage cart up to my room making small talk as we went. Brave soul. I do not think I or, for that matter, anyone else arriving during his shift that night, made a much better companion than a dazed zombie. In my room I showered and ...
