Though we´re eager to leave the soggy island of Roatan, we grit our teeth as our day long (five connections) air journey to Nicaragua begins. It beats the alternative, as bussing would´ve taken three days. Just as we´re into the last leg, San Salvador to Managua, the plane is delayed two hours. UGH. All this comes with a great reward: Granada, Nicaragua and the Bohemian Paradise Hotel. We´re met at the airport by the reliable taxi service, Paxeos, to make the 45 minute journey. When we arrive...
Granada, Nicaragua travljini... there is little to no recompense and justice through courts, revenge killing is more the way to go, so the need for lawyers is minimal. Two examples
About a month or so ago at Via Via, the fantastic backpackers in Leon, there was a gruesome murder of one of the security guards and a robbery. The robbery and murder was planned by another of the security guards, who shall be referred to as X, who has not been caught and nor is likely to be. The others involved have ...
... is too beautiful to even describe, the architecture is classic Spanish and it borders a gorgeous lake with little islands in it (formed by the eruption of Mumbacho Volcano).
After a night of dancing, we headed to the volcano, and proceeded to hike up (round 2). Suzanne and I are the "senior" volunteers of the group since we have been here a month longer, and as such have decided that as a right of passage, every new ...
... watered, Carribean Island without palm trees and white sand. Just
such a relaxed place. It is nice that the island is not I the
Caribbean, a place this beautiful would no doubt be covered in tourists
and expensive hotels. Instead it had only a handful of tourists and one
ATM.
The bus dropped us off at a park after an hour and a
half. The park was full of pigs trotting about eating rubbish. We
waited and waited for another bus ...
... at the weekends so it was pretty busy. We found ourselves a little spot though.
We stayed that night right on the lake. Gustavo had a place for us, it was like a jail cell. Concrete walls, bunk beds to sleep four, no glass on the windows and a corrugated roof. Crazy, crazy place. Obviously we were all eaten alive but it was some experience watching the stars over the lake while Omri and Matt built a fire. Brian even got to use his flashlight.

During the two-hour ride to Rivas, I chatted with Eliseo about various things Nicaraguan - as the taxi flew Southward bound, he called out the various cities, including the volcano Mombacho, one of Nicaragua's biggest active volcanos, but hasn't erupted in the last couple of hundred years.
However, I got tired pretty fast and dozed off...the next thing I know, Eliseo was tapping me on the shoulder, telling me ...
... is off to Hotel
Chancletas to surf and see my property in Los Clavos Beach. Chancletas
is the ultimate surf hotel. Located in front of the beachbreak, Booms,
this place caters to the true adventurer. I stayed there in July 2008
and had an amazing time. No TV....just drinks, food, surfing, and time
to relax.
Part 2 next time......
Macht also Sinn, oder?
