... it was so good. I get why people rave about their pies. Half in a food-coma, we headed across the bay bridge and over to the Chesapeake Nature Center. We rented kayaks from the nicest bird-nerd lady. I love how incredibly passionate she was about birds! She was able to tell us exactly where to paddle in order to see everything, and told us what birds lived where. She was a lot of fun. We went down to the kayak area, pulled our boats off ...

... where we decided to stop for lunch at a little refreshment stand. It was about here that we realised we weren't going to make it all the way to the Capitol today, so headed straight up to the Washington Monument before buying a snowcone each (I had two because I dropped the first, and yes it was my own fault for messing around...) and carrying on to the White House. So far, everything was really impressive, but the White House was maybe a little disappointing. All the ...

We had to visit the memorials from Washington monument to Lincoln's, Jefferson's, Martin Luther's ending at the FDR memorial (the longest) on the island. We were able to include WWII, Vietnam and the Korean war memorials as well. All of these are exquisite and reflect their purpose quite well.
