Historical Traveler Reviews Blacket Garden Flat Edinburgh
You won't be disapointed!
My husband and I had a lovely time at the Blacket Garden Flat. Isobel and James are incredibley warm, welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Not to mention- Isobel's breakfasts are superb! I would recommend this B&B to anyone- my husband and I felt like a member of the Simpson family- it made our trip to Edinburgh very comfortable and relaxed.
So good the first time, we went back for our honeymoon!
Edinburgh is a very special place for my wife and I. It's the place where I first confessed my true feelings for her on a clear cold night standing on the Waverley Bridge, gazing up at the stars. 3 years later, we both said 'aye - do'! We first met the Simpsons by pure chance. Un-beknown to us, the New Zealand 'All Blacks' were playing Scotland at rugby the first weekend we chose to visit Edinburgh with some friends of ours. Of course, when we tried to reserve a room, all the usual places were fully booked... After trolling through the many hotel, B&,B and hostel listings, we finally, and fortunately, discovered Edinburgh's finest!! I cannot recommend more highly 'Blacket Garden Flat' as the place to stay, to complete a truly memorable Scottish experience in the magnificent city of Edinburgh. Once found, never forgotten: My Wife and I don't stay anywhere else! It's magic.

Best breakfast in Edinburgh!
If you want poached eggs with Scottish salmon, boiled eggs with toast soldiers, or are brave enough for a 'Brave Heart': a double portion of full Scottish breakfast (...YIKES!) Isobel is the one to serve it up with the warmest of Scottish hospitality.
We loved our stay at Blacket Garden Flat. The room was spacious enough (and Isobel gracious enough) to accommodate 10 of us for drinks. It's warm, comfortable (my husband raved about the bed) and beautifully decorated.
The neighbourhood is enchanting - in its heydey, it was one of the most exclusive in Edinburgh: see how the 'other half' lived in the Victorian and Edwardian days of spendour.
Blacket Garden Flat is a vacation all in itself without the added bonus of being in a perfect location in the best, most beautiful city in the world: Edinburgh!
A lovely retreat with a warm welcome
When we arrived outside Blacket Garden Flat we could scarcely believe our luck at finding such a glorious place to stay. Quiet, but within easy walking distance to the city centre (or an very quick busride), just the sight of the stunningly well-planted garden and entrance was enough to convince we had landed on our feet with this place.
Inside, the thrill continued: the most incredible bedroom ever seen with an enormous superkingsize bed that could comfortably have slept many more than just us two! Beautiful furnishings and decoration; a fridge, a fabulous tea/coffee supplies trolley; magazines; a CD player and a selection of music --- just everything you could want or expect and so much more.
The bathroom had a magnificent shower (easy to work as well!) and just felt so homely.
And then there was the breakfast...! Cooked to order, it was a great way to start the day.
Jas and Isobel were wonderful hosts and everything was managed courteously and efficiently and with good humour. They offered helpful advice and guidance on the area - always tailored to their guests likes and dislikes (they are brilliantly attentive to guests interests!) - and yet were never intrusive.
A home from home (except ours looks nothing like as fabulous as this!)

Quiet refuge in Edinburgh
We recently spent four great days in Edinburgh, Scotland. Our accommodation at Blacket Garden Flat added enormously to that experience. Located conveniently for a short bus ride or easy walk to the Royal Mile, it is located on a quiet tree-lined street. Our room was huge, beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. It was much more than a place to stay with a bed, en suite facility & tea/coffee making. Always provided in the room were fresh fruit, shortbread and a candy bar. The furnishings included a very comfotable kingsize bed, loveseat and coffee table and chaise lounge for relaxing & TV viewing, a dresser for make-up & hairdrying, a chest of drawers and generous closet space.
What made our stay so pleasent was our most personable hostess, Isobel. She was a font of information and helpful advice. We were sent off each day with a hearty breakfast which went beyond the standard "cooked" breakfast. Her daily menu offered numerous delicious chioces.
Anytime we return to Edinbugh we'll be staying at Blacket Garden Flat.
Great Hospitality
This accomodation is run by Isobel and Jas Simpson and is superb! They make your stay very comfortable and the rooms are very well appointed with nice touches like a mini fridge, and fully stocked bathrooms. You could turn up with just a toothbrush and wouldn't want for anything. The breakfasts are excellent and very filling, including haggis if you want to try it. The buses are nearby and plentiful. Park the car and don't use it again. A word on parking - during the week it is residents permit only parking, but free parking is only 5 minutes walk away. At the weekend, you can park in the street with no problems. Very quiet and peaceful. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and will do their utmost to make your stay a pleasant one.

Edinburgh and introduction to Scotland
Hi. I have been in Edinburgh for three days now and just got on the internet to share about my time so far. I have decided I really do not like Edinburgh. I found three things I did like here though: the old buildings around the Royal Mile area, St. Giles Cathedral, and Holyrood Park. I haven't seen everything though.
Getting here was …
I'm back in Edinburgh
Hi. This will be short because its getting late and I have to wake up before 6am tomorrow morning. I am now back in Edinburgh now. The hiking tour has ended. It was great. I loved it even though it literally rained every single day excet the first day. And with rain came clouds obscuring the views and mountains. But I still loved it. I am getting …
Dunnottar Castle & Kilchurn Castle
Hi. Yesterday I took the train to Stonehaven, a seaside town on the northeast coast of Scotland to see a castle ruin: Dunnottar Castle. I chose to go there yesterday because it was going to be a nice day there (for a change). It turned out to be a great decision. The train ride up was 2 hours and not too many peope on the train. I was a little lost …
