    Today I walked from Nieuwmarkt to Bloemenmarkt. I rode the metro into town and got off at Nieuwmarkt. As soon as I got above ground the clouds opened and it started pouring! Still, I started walking, determined to wander and see where I ended up.
    What I can say for sure is that Amsterdam is not a place to bring young children unless you want to have some very uncomfortable conversations. Amsterdam wears its "underbelly" ...

    ... But the courage that would've been needed to stay indoors for that period of time as well as be a part of the four who helped hide the group - is truely heroic stuff.     ... next door where they did a decent job cheering us up with really Dutch food. I had a zalle which was a light beer that they made at the windmill and Care had one called "the Gnome" that was also Dutch. For dinner we tried the Dutch croquettes which were really good deep-fried balls of meat and stuff and came with deviled egg yokes as a sauce.
