    ... so easy to spend the entire day in the city, leaving the hotel in the early morning and not returning until it was time for bed. There is great history in Amsterdam but it feels like a place and a people far more concerned with the present.

    I had tried to check in yesterday but kept getting pushed out of the system part way through the process. So, we had to stand in line to check in even though we weren't checking baggage.
