The wide and brown Mississippi River was the big event today ... though crossing it on the Beltway around St. Louis in 5 lanes of heavy traffic = a brief glimpse. Still it impressed me. Otherwise, even more impressive by virtue of their vastness, were the cornfields and, alternately, soybean fields that stretched on through southern Indiana and all across Illinois. ... Canyonlands National Park, Utah for six weeks and Colleen is looking forward to enjoying some quiet time alone!
When asked if we'd do it all again, our answer would be a resounding, "Yes, in a heartbeat!"
This resort is another one with a beautiful pool (and another one available to us through Resort Parks International).
We went into Hermann, toured the Stone Hill Winery, the Hermann Wurst Shoppe, stopped in a Brewery (for Greg, of course), and then had a bite of BBQ. A good day, despite the oppressive heat (which seems to be the theme of this summer's travels!)
Made it as far as Warrenton, Missouri on day 2. As you can see by the picture, Braddock has become a lapdog. Nice weather and mostly decent roads so far. Tried a short cut in Western Kentucky, though, where the two-lane highway had bumps and dips and a very narrow bridge over the Mississippi River. Probably won't do that one again. Nebraska ...
