We just returned from one week at the bahia principe akumel resort in cancun mexico. The beach front room was the highlight. Listening to the ocean waves all night was wonderful. The weather was amazing and the the people and food was great. We will go ...

Fully one-third of the miles of I-70 across Illinois were in some stage of de- or con- struction, and one -half of those miles were single lane. Surprisingly this held us up only once, at which point we opened the cars windows and REVELED in the lovely farm fields' vegetative smells and the songs of crickets/cicadas. ...
... And trust us, it wasn't always easy (especially for the one who always thought she was right).
Flexibility was key. We were both open to changing our plans for the day if something better came up or if the day wasn't working out quite the way we had hoped.
Having our own personal space where we could retreat to read, relax or sleep was a lifesaver.

This resort is another one with a beautiful pool (and another one available to us through Resort Parks International).
We went into Hermann, toured the Stone Hill Winery, the Hermann Wurst Shoppe, stopped in a Brewery (for Greg, of course), and then had a bite of BBQ. A good day, despite the oppressive heat (which seems to be the theme of this summer's travels!)
Made it as far as Warrenton, Missouri on day 2. As you can see by the picture, Braddock has become a lapdog. Nice weather and mostly decent roads so far. Tried a short cut in Western Kentucky, though, where the two-lane highway had bumps and dips and a very narrow bridge over the Mississippi River. Probably won't do that one again. Nebraska ...
