Today's journey turned out to be a little longer than we had imagined though we are typing this from hotel number 3 in Genoa, so we clearly made it in one piece.

It started off wet and yukky in Lucca and we got the chance to find out that the windscreen wipers worked rather well - and that Sergio is surprisingly refined with the top closed. Bob even fits - just.

The first hour was refreshingly hassle free and quite a fun ...

Flight on time to Genoa...bumpy landing with Ryanair and a woman shouting like we were going to crash....

Arrived at Melia Genoa, and overbooked so they sent me to 5 star Grand Hotel Savoia (lots of history).
No pool here, but gym and jacuzzi in the terrace upstairs. But they upgraded me to the Suite which is fantastic and its downtown so I walk straight to the port in 2 mins.

The walls were quite a sight. The old mixed in with the new makes it an interesting view. I tried to think about what it would have looked like long ago. The pieces seem to be there but you have use your imagination. I'm glad they kept these historical buildings. There was a car dealership that was built right at the former entrance to the castle. Train to Genoa

... train is near the ocean. It's cool to see the water, fields, mountains and forests as the train goes through the countryside. It's not a high speed train so the total length of the ride about 5 hours. I will be lucky to go on one of those trains again. I believe it's from Florence to Naples.

... that would lose our streak of 82 years!!! This was the most amazing soccer I have ever been too and leaving the stadium seeing no one cheer was upsetting, until we ran into a bunch of Americans!

Leaving Genoa was the most stressful thing on this adventure because we didn't have a ride home being that it was all sold out. The next train was to leave at 6 a.m. and it was only 11 p.m.. We were all getting a bit cranky, but in no time we cheered back up and were starting ...
