... and after the bad start things got a whole lot better and I really got to like the country, its people and to enjoy the places I saw, even if was slightly rushed. It has an incredible wealth of history and sights which means there's plenty more to come back and see and I hope someday I will.

I'd debated coming back through the Mont Blanc tunnel against the far longer but much prettier option of going over the mountain pass. To tick it off the list I decided to go for ...

... got to the maritime museum and enjoyed the exhibits inside. The current major exhibition is on Viking history and it was excellent and complemented the exhibition we had visited at the Roskilde Viking Museum in Denmark. The maritime museum also had exhibits specific to the areas of Cornwall and South Devon, as well as a special exhibition highlighting heroic and daring feats by women from the south of England while at sea.

... to Swansea in Wales. We found the local cemetery and looked through the older headstones and found some Griffith surnames, together with other common Welsh surnames such as Jones, Williams, Lloyd, Owen, Johnson, etc.

After Llanelli we drove back towards Cardiff to visit the National Welsh Museum at St Fagans Park. The Park is a large open air museum with examples of buildings from the 1600s to 1900s. We spent over two very enjoyable hours exploring the site ...

And we are off.
