Journey to Interlaken
... group, and then the 4:06 train back from Interlaken to Lucerne. Unfortunately, it was too dark to see much scenery. On the upside, though, we have massive seats on our last first class train! Lisa, Renee and I got some groceries from the “Coop” (pronounced like a coop, not co-op) and then headed back to Renees where Lisa and I made tortellini and salad for dinner. Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland
... of the mountains around us and a thick layer of snow on everything. We spent this day travelling up the 'Top of Europe' with amazing views.. That unfortunately we were unable to see because of the weather.. All well, we got to go into an ice palace and the views on the way back made up for it. We had snowball fights, made snow angels, bought Swiss Army knives, ate traditional fondu, celebrated Matt and Jaz ...

... do at the summit, 2970 m Schilthorn has better views, is less expensive and made for an unforgettable few hours of sipping drinks in the revolving panoramic restaurant. We went part way down the mountain via cable car and gondola and then chose to walk down the rest of the mountain (a decision which our legs hated us for the next day but was by far worth it).

... Next to a small mill – with work in progress – was an Alpkaeserei. Daniela got us some samples of the Alpkaese, or Alpine cheese, and it was very strong and tasty.
From Winteregg, everyone but us continued on to Gruetschalp, but since we didn’t have anything for a picnic, we decided to stop in Winteregg and have lunch at the little restaurant. We had “mixed” sandwiches (ham, cheese, salami) and Rivella, an herbal lemonade. We ...

... We drove through the Black Forest to the open-air museum at Gutach. We were given a tour by Steffen Unpronounceablesurname of the farmhouse that is the "star" of the museum and the mill. The farmhouse, or Vogtsbauernhof, was built in the early 17th century and housed the farmer and his family, farmhands (the important ones, anyway), and the livestock. Around the back of the house, there was a sort of driveway that led up to the top floor. ...
