... there were walking trails through the forests.
Had lunch at a great (very cheesy) sports bar on Atlantic Avenue, the beach was really busy at this point, Sunday is definitely the day the Brazilians go to the beach.
At 16:00 there was a Brazilian League game at the Maracana, Fluminese vs. Sporting Baiha and I took the metro there and back (which was okay, not too crowded but takes ages). I got a ticket right in the middle of ...

Once the three weary travelers freshend up and scrubbed the airplane funk away, we were picked up by Carolina and Bernardo for a mid-day meal at one of Mauro's favorite restaurants, Cafe e Restaurante Shirley. He loves the seafood here, but their other menu items ...

... expect but the journey provides several comical moments in Katia's old blue VW beetle as she puts the world to rights whilst weaving dangerously in and out of Rio traffic. I ask her about the ongoing building work for the World Cup as no one ever seems to be working. 'It will be a mess' she says bluntly 'but it's Brazil, so it will be beautiful', 'A beautiful mess' and she chuckles out loud. When Karen quizzes her on the teenage pregnancy rate and the church's stance on contraception ...
