... The memorial itself is spectacular. Two huge, square fountain structures have been built on the exact space once occupied by both towers. Our tour guide told us that you cannot see the bottom because the designers wanted the structures to evoke the monumental sense of absence. ... get to is the pedestal which is quite an easy stair way up that most people could manage, but the next part up to the crown is 384 steps round a winded narrow staircase. Since Mandy is scared of heights it was quite an ordeal but we made it to the top!

... when the people sitting next to us were a couple of chicks who seemed to be stuck in the 80's; with big blonde hair, Bon Jovi t-shirts and leather pants...so Chrissy knew she wouldn't be the only one singing along at the top of her lungs! You feel like you are patrons of the Bourbon Room when waiters come down the aisles selling beer and jelly shots and naturally we got into the full experience! ... we bought new clothes! It was an advantage, in so many ways to shop for Val's outfit with just under an hour and a half before the Mall closed, because it gave us little time for faffing, since she finds clothes shopping so joyful :-) The day was a success though, despite my hayfever, and we're all set with swanky new outfits for the big day.
