When we last left off we had decided to head into the Hell's Kitchen area along 9th avenue, which is walking distance to a great strip of independent restaurants. There are various explanations for the name - but once an impoverished area to immigrants today it's home to eclectic ethnic restaurants and shops.

Tonight's outing is one of those moments of stumbling onto treasures just when you're about to leave. ...

... for a turnstile and Robyn had used all our change on the cab. A change machine to the rescue and we decided there was time despite the train catching challenge for some photos of us half in the US and half in Canada.

Then into the US Department of Customs and Border Protection, a place to be very serious. At least that's what Jonathan warned Robyn ("Don't mention we couldn't buy train tickets in Canada" he whispered to her)

... this back in 2011). We got up fairly quick just as blue hour was starting and the city lights were beginning to come on. Spent about 45 min or so there, watching it get dark. The views are so beautiful and it wasn't overly crowded at that time of night. There is more room to move around at Rock Center (Empire State gets a bit crowded).

Then after a long tiring day, we decided to head back to the room to relax and prepare for the next day.
