... at "Threadgills" for dinner. The namesake of this establishment mentored Janis Joplin once upon a time. There are photos, lots of them. Gram Parsons is there, Gerry Garcia, Frank Zappa was a regular also. He liked the Mississippi catfish, so on his recommendation I gave it a whirl. For a bottom feeder, done Cajun style, that was a tasty dish to exit Austin with.

... down to what will be forever remembered as one of the best meals I have ever shoveled in to my face. The ribs were tender with a pinky size pink ring of smoke. The meat was so perfectly cooked that it did not fall off the bone but hung on until your mouth gently nuzzled it away. For how absolutely delectible the ribs were, the brisket stole the show. In addition to translation work he writes short features every month for a newsletter in Uruguay, which I was familiar with. We shared our experiences growing up in Montevideo and then leaving.
