Pretty limited to do outside of that. I got here by taking a mini-bus taxi to a town close by called Mbazwana and hitchhiking with these guys that did landscaping in their truck. I called around and everything was pretty expensive at ...
... important part of their life up there. We unfortunately had to share the experience with a rather irritating American, I think ******** is an important part of his life too! The day after that I agreed to go horse riding in the mountains, which scared me more than cage diving with Great Whites. I am not a big horse fan, they scare me, they are big and have lots of teeth and it is a long way to fall off. However I have to say that I think my horse Ish Po (Horse Power!) and I ...
St. Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa littlemisbakpak... their huge teeth. It was exciting. We walked around the town saw the Ocean and some crocidles in the estuary and then took a night drive. It was exciting zooming around in a jeep searching for animals with huge search lights. Our guide was fun and very informative. The next mornign we went horseback riding on the beach. Then we hopped back on the buz and headed to Swazliand for the night!
St. Lucia, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa whitneyhlHappy Halloween! Instead of celebrating Halloween Nikki and I were the special guests in her mom's 3rd grade classroom. The students are currently studying Native Americans, therefore it was exciting to have an American guest. We came in for the art lesson and had the students make Tipi's, totem poll drawings, and feather hand-bands that displayed the Native ...
Hillcrest, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa whitneyhl... while doing an overnight hike. The hostel is your only choice in Northern Drakensberg. It's nice and clean - only a curtain on the bathroom door though. Food was okay. Nothing around it though so you need to bring cash with you, no ATM. Can get cold at there so a jumper is handy. Bar is nice - has a jacuzzi in the middle of it which is quite strange and two computers with Internet. As it is the only hostel you will meet people. We ...
Northern Drakensberg, South Africa francescahuntToday we headed towards the Drakensberg mountains and a luxury tented lodge to be shared with a family of baboons. This was wild 'luxury' camping at its best!! The following two days were to comprise of team football, walking in the mountains and a trip to the ...
Drakensberg Mountains, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa clarefun22... drove around Durban and just spent time at their home in afternoon. We had lunch at a garden supply store. Open restaurants in Garden shops are typical here. In the evening the van Belkum's took us out to dinner at an Italian restaurant.
Durban, South Africa victorkubik... few months found out where he was (with us) and doing well, and had decided that she wanted him to come home. Because she is a living relative, she has rights to full custody. So, as you can imagine, it was heart wrenching to say goodbye and have him leave us, knowing where he was going and what little he will now have-as far as resources and opportunity. He was going home to a mud hut with NOTHING inside, except for a few pots in the middle of the room. They (the pots) were ...
Durban, South Africa jaimegirl... pretty emotional the last few days.I know it is going to be very difficult leaving GGA, and South Africa in general. I miss everyone terribly, but I wish that I had more time here. I just keep telling myself that I will be back to visit in the next two years. Well, this is my goal anyway:) I have a feeling that it will be difficult re-adjusting to American culture once I get home. There is a spirit here in ...
Cato Ridge, South Africa jaimegirl... After another fine meal Jared suddenly developed an urge to go out on the lake on a rowboat. . The boats are there to use at your own risk. It must be said that although Lisa and I were the designated rowers of the boat, we were both rubbish. Soon Lisa, Chanelle, Jared and I were pretty much going around in circles. Our obvious lack of basic paddling skills did not escape the attention of Jared, who was pretty nervous at this point and moaning to get back to ...
