... ambiance. The Duomo wasn’t actually as great as I remembered, but it was one of the first churches I went to and, since I’ve seen so many other, I’ve realized that it isn’t as cool as I thought back then. But I still enjoyed it.

After walking around and doing as much as we could (it was Katy’s last day in Florence, well, traveling in general really), we went to pick up Ali and Kelsa, got refreshed back at the hostel ...

... fridge pulling out more and more food for me to try. He cut slices of Panettone fruit bread and a slice of every cheese on the table and put them in front of me. Now I started to feel like an American, stuffed to the brim. I realized now how bad this was for our health. Vilmo drove us home.
The next morning work began. We awoke at 8am, ate a quick breakfast then headed to the olive tree groves. The women explained to me the process of laying out ...

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

I spent the morning taking an Italian exam!!! The afternoon was a little more fun, touring Palazzo Pitti with my Art History class.

It was a little strange spending it without everyone but my school put together a little gathering for us. A group of us dined on a typical American Thanksgiving at a local restaurant. We were served Butternut Squash soup with bread, Turkey ...

Cooking Class

Hi Everyone!

After an exhausting weekend in Brussels, I was in for yet another treat with cooking classes in Florence. Organized by my school, a group of us met with a chef for some lessons.

We were taught how to prepare typical Tuscan cuisine including Ribollita and Stuffed zucchini-flowers.

Everything was delicious & I look forward to trying these recipes at home!

I'll update you soon,

Two Days in Siena

... Rossi was her husband. Then I realized that this old lady was the wife of a bicycling legend and the frame on the wall was one of the frames from his hay-day.

We moved onto shopping and grabbing pizza for lunch then on to the piazza Campos. Here we looked around until it was time to go to St. Dominics Church for the start of a walking tour. The tour guide gave us interesting history about Siena, its churches, and its customs. We ended up at the Duomo which was incredible ...

... Uffizi, and spent a couple hours there. We couldn't take pictures, though, so you'll have to come here and experience it yourself. The museum itself was created by the Medici family during the peak of their power. It included a lot of beautiful paintings on the ceilings, but I couldn't look at them for too long. Plus, Evan wasn't told a lot about them in his art class. He was told a lot about the paintings, however, and I got some good ...

... standing there and talking it over for a minute I noticed the bag had a long leather decoration attached to it and it all made sense - this was thirty five Euros! Looking inside revealed the bag was 310 Euro (about $475). We were both very relieved to figure this out so we went to look at shoes again and laugh at ourselves. Some really were small pieces of art, never meant to be worn; others were like any other pair you could get for 400 ...

A Day Of Museums & Crowds In Firenze

... what I saw. It was really only one painting that was amazing. It was a painting of Leonardo Da Vinci on his death bed, surrounded by friends and family and those who understood the world was losing a great mind. One of the people standing beside the bed had this look of despair and loss that was heartbreaking, a true portrayal of the way a person feels when someone they care deeply about is in the throes of passing into the ...

Dead Wrinkly Guy

We jumped on a train to Florence after a bit of a sleep in arriving a few hours later. As we were aimlessly wandering out of the station a guy with a cigar hanging out of his mouth approached us asking if we needed a place to stay. Replying with a "Yes!" he showed us a business card, gave us a reasonable price then drove us to his apartment five minutes away in the heart of Florence. It was a huge room with ...

... meats, and deserts. With dinner concluded, the gentlemen and I set out for after dinner drinks at a local watering hole. I felt this was important not for the consumption of liquor, but for the acquiring of valuable Italian vocabulary such as the words for glass, ice, and whisky. With our intellectual appetites satisfied, we returned to our apartments.
