... on street front closed but one open on station platform- no sign suggesting try upstairs...just closed. All walking trails closed due to weather conditions. No indication when they will open. Bugger! Will hang around in morning and see if they open. Don't like chances cause it's still sprinkling light rain so they won't dry out. Don't know what to do- looking forward to staying in one place for a few days- walk along coast and catch train ...

... and found myself in more lane ways with a vibrant African community- like being in an underground community separated from the daily life of Genoese. Back up to real world and went into restaurant across road from hotel. Fantastic spag marinara ( fruiti di mare) and zuppa pesce which was also a meal on its own- a huge bowl crustaceans and small mullet cooked in same tomato sauce as spag. ... 7am. Our final night on board was marked by a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra and then it was off to dinner for the last time with Alex and Julia. We have both enjoyed each other's company, and as they were staying one more night in Rome they invited us to dine with them at a nice restaurant they had been to before. ... looking for turned out to be a very nice shop. I assumed the hotel must have been above it as this has been the case with two other places I had stayed at, but I couldn't find any stairs. Fortunately the shop assistant, who spoke English, explained that the "nero" part of the address meant that I had to look at the big black numbers on the building not the normal numbers ..... I ended up at the pointy end of Via XX Settembre near Piazza ...
