    ... Capoeirinha. We are in search of the bird species most threatened by extinction in the Pantanal, the Hyacinth Macaw. The threat is due to trapping for the cage bird market and the encroachment of man in their territories. After much patience, we find a mating pair in a large Sterculia tree. They are more beautiful in person than any pictures I have ever seen. Drive back in search of spotting other animals. Lunch siesta, hammock!

    ... mileage that we've traveled in the last 45 days or so, but I'm sure that we're well over 15,000 miles once we get to Toronto. I'll calculate that when I have a chance.

    Walked up Leblon, Ipanema and half way up Copacabana beach and back today. It's longer than I thought and really hot - got a bit sunburned despite using sunscreen.
