    Today we started with a visit to "Christ the Redeemer" the famous statue that looks down over Rio. We took a steep tram ride, elevator and escalator up the rock to get to the statue. What amazing views we had when we got there. The day was clear and it was 25 degrees, perfect viewing. It is Sunday so we weren't the only people viewing... Its amazing what lengths people go to get the perfect picture.. lying on the ground was getting slightly carried away with so many people everywhere. ...

    ... in a while you would come across something really nice. I thought the hammocks, linens, and occasionally good quality leather items would have been good things to buy. The butcher and cheese shops were just plain scary because of flys and less refrigeration than you would see in the US. Most of the stalls were little restaurants. I'm sure it would have been fine to eat at but the public restroom was so filthy that I couldn't stomach the idea. There were ...
