Sergio meanwhile was happily taking it in his stride and didn't miss a beat whilst we fretted about directions. He's quite a smooth drive and is quite nippy provided there isn't a hint of an incline involved. The Alps are going to be interesting.

Today we had a long drive from Rome to Pisa. We took the coastal road which allowed us to have some beautiful views of the Mediteranian Sea.

The trip took about 4 and a half hours. We arrived in Pisa at 1pm. The boys had some free time to have lunch and to view the leaning tower.

We headed off after that to a village near Montecini to watch a professional rugby match between Rovigo and ...

The drive to Pisa was fine but we got lost trying to find the parking area to catch the shuttle to the site. In the end, we just drove to the site and got a parking spot within a block of the Field of Miracles. Note to self ...this is the off season... We CAN get parking spots.

... before the path was fenced off. Despite the frustrations, the villages and the scenery were unforgettable and we arrived back in Levanto after ten hours with a bunch of great photos!

What we still do not understand is why there was no information about this earlier in the process. We visited three towns, purchased a train ticket, a national park entry ticket and got a walking trail map from the information desk but none of the people that served ...
