We are having a great holiday. We arrivied in Cairns on Nov. 26th and have been very busy ever since.
First activity was a 2 night 3 day live aboard on the Great Barrier Reef. It was amazing - saw lots of different kinds of very colorful fish and coral. Saw sharks, baracudas, and turtles. When they turned the lights on at night, the water came alive with small to large fish. It was really something to see.

Every evening we watch the powered para-gliders, para-sailors, ultralight planes and trikes soaring over a field beside our resort. At night, we see spectacular red Arizona sunsets and even though we're several miles from the Sky Harbor airport, we can see up to seven planes lined up on their descent ...

... there were two huge fire retardant air-tankers, helicopters and bird dogs tackling the flames which reached 100ft in the air. Numerous bulldozers were spotted on surrounding roadways while even more firefighting equipment were on standby at various oil leases and gas wells in the area. Amazingly, each Canadair CL415 waterbomber can scoop up 1350 gal of water in 12 seconds. We positioned ourselves on the shoreline to watch a plane skim the lake ...

The site we had was extremely small and the only place for the tent was on what was basically a gravel driveway, but with our sleeping mats and Rex and Mo's winter sleeping bag underneath us (very plush) we slept alright.
