Another day spent mostly in the the car! But we saw beautiful little towns between green rolling hills. We left Jefferson City after a quick stop at the capitol. Our goal was to find the old Route 66. In Missouri (and in a lot of other states) this mythic highway has been replaced by the interstates or by newer roads, but there are still parts of the original route existing. We eventually ...

Atlanta, Illinois, was small and cute and just like a small town with one main street and a town square should be. I wouldn't have minded poking around there for a bit, but we will find others when we are maybe not so behind on the day's drive. I bought a stamp for Mum's first postcard here anyway.

My special treat to myself today was to stand on both ends of the original Route 66 that now disappears in to Springfield Lake - an enormous man made reservoir ...
