Our first whole day in Victoria started with a basic breakfast laid on by the hostel. Toast, Coffee or Tea. We decided to familiarise ourselves with the district and local shops, as we wanted to buy SIMs to use whilst in Canada. The Bay Centre contained some interesting sports shops, including Out of Bounds, which had a great selection of Ice-hockey tops, caps, T-Shirts and hoodies. ... seeing as it was such a lovely sunny day.

Back across the road to finish off packing and be out of room by 12pm.

Left on bus for ferry terminal at 1.15pm and arrived at 2.05pm. Some lovely views of mountains along the way. Boarded and headed off on the ferry at 2.30pm and arrived around 4.30pm. We went straight to Butchart Gardens and had an early dinner in the original Butchart family residence ...

... the south and east of Victoria City Centre. It really is pretty. Some massive big sea scapes (bet the winter storms are highly entertaining), resident wildlife and stunning (massive) homes. All a bit too mock-tudor for my liking, but you can't help but be impressed by them - and their massive gardens and lawns. I did some driving (it's okay, we're all still alive) so that Graeme could play passenger, and do you know? The helpful hints and tips still ...

Give her her due.. she bought me an ice cream and a hotdog as a god boy reward...


So with that marathon over with we headed off to the Fairmont Empress hotel on the harbour front in Victoria..

... ghost story was as boring as hell....I pinged off as soon as I could.

We are now in Van-city as the locals call it. Much more effective use of the waterfront than Toronto - I can see why it rates as the third most liveable city.
Our coach took us on a familiarisation tour down town then across to Stanley Park visiting the exact places I earmarked to see - to that saved me hiring a cycle and my legs are already thanking me as it is ...
