Day 9 - the drive home. Not technically an event day but nevertheless I thought it was worth posting a few concluding comments for others contemplating doing the same event - so indulge me.

... to Helmsdale in good time and bright sunshine, the boys decided to crack on for a further 20 miles or so they told me. This soon turned into an incredible push to the finish (an extra 55 miles), incidentally knocking a full day of the planned timetable, arriving at John O'Groats in heavy rain and semi-darkness.

Day 172 - 19 August - Back to the Mainland
This morning we returned to the same cafe as yesterday for brunch and ran into one the guys from the hostel who we chatted with last night, so he joined us for a feed. Chatted more until our parking ticket was due to expire so we left him to his desert and went for a drive to north end of the mainland island.
