Historical Traveler Reviews of Balmoral Lodge Queenstown
A Perfect Homestay
from Kanch
We enjoyed our stay at Balmoral with Cis & Les because it was so personal, and we felt absolutely at home. The two dressing gowns in the closet, fresh milk in a jug in the fridge, yummy cooked breakfast and the little birdie bowl to place the used tea bags in, were amongst the many other things that made our stay very memorable.

Great B&B
from raven40
The views are everything the other reviewers have said. One room in particular surrounds you with the view .. including the bathroom!
Rooms are a little small for the money based on room sizes in other lodges we stayed at, but when you look out the windows - of which there are many - you could forget the slightly cramped space.
Les and Cis are everything you would expect in a 1st Class B&B. Use them. They have been there for more than 30 years and really know the ins and outs. My only regret is we did not ask more questions before we got there. I am sure they will not only steer you in the right direction about what to see and what to do but will probably save you money.
And yes they have cats. Very friendly and pettable cats.
Breakfast was excellant .. we unfortunately arrived after a few days of heavy eating so we did not have the offered cooked breakfasts but I suspect that our expanding waistlines probably cost us a taste treat.

Perfect in every way
from Bunks2
We stayed at the Balmoral Lodge for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been more perfect. The views are stunning from every window, Les and Cis are knowledgeable about the activities in the area and helped to point us in the right direction and the breakfasts are fantastic. The whole house is spotlessly clean, our room was serviced every day and we were always toasty warm (the heater in our room could be set to turn on and off a number of times a day so we had it set to come on in the early morning and just before we got home in the evening). Our bathroom had a double spa and it was fantastic to ease the aches at the end of a full day of activities.
Best Views in Queenstown

Balmoral Lodge was the perfect place to stay in Queenstown. The room was gorgeous, very large with excellent ensuite and the whole property was a pleasure to stay at. Loved the billard table. Cis and Les were great hosts. We felt like we were part of the family. Will recommend to everyone.
A home away from home
from anniebody
My husband and I went to Queenstown NZ to ski and stayed at the Balmoral Lodge which I'd found online. It was everything the website said and more. We didn't use the outdoor spaces because it was winter, but the landscaping is lovely and it must be wonderful in the summer months. The house is spacious, open and inviting and meticulously clean. The views are spectacular from every room and the hosts are charming and helpful. They put out a fine spread for breakfast as well as snacks, wine and after drinks. We've traveled all over the world and sampled a lot of "world class" hotels but find that B&Bs in New Zealand are the way to go because the standards are high and the people are very inviting.
Perfect honeymoon location

Myself and my wife stayed at balmoral lodge during our honeymoon. We were thoroughly impressed with the friendly owners, the room, the view, and the cat.
Highly recommended.
Relaxing at Balmoral Lodge
from WarwickDredge
The view of the lake and the mountains started unwinding me as soon as I set foot in my room. I needed a rest and a change from work and by the end of the week Balmoral had done just that. Each day started with a glorious breakfast and I could feel myself slowing bit by bit.
I went skiing by bus during the week's stay and didn't hire a car on purpose to make myself walk around and get to know Queenstown. There's a lovely walk to the top of the Queenstown Hill directly above the Lodge and it has views equal to any in Switzerland.
I was lucky enough to see it snow there too so the week was complete.

Stay away if allergic to cats
from HikerRob
Cat dander was in our room. A cat scampered from our room when we first entered it. My wife is extremely allergic to cats and we had to leave after the first night. The lodge staff had no compassion for my wife's discomfort and charged us for three additional nights that we had reserved.
Awesome

This is a great place to stay. Our room was spotlessly clean, had a jacuzzi tub, and a self contained kitchen- this on top of great breakfasts...and a short walk to town. Not too close to hear the rowdy bar crowds at night. Our hosts booked us for activities and even got us last minute reservations on New Years Eve!
Beautiful House in Queenstown
from citybeagle
I had a lovely stay at the Balmoral Lodge. The B&B is in a beautiful house on the hillside with breathtaking views of the lake. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens; there is a comfortable living room for guests with cable TV and complimentary port and sherry, and a game room with a snooker table and a dart board. The breakfasts were very good. My room was a little small, with private bath, but very clean and quiet. It is a bit far to walk to downtown Queenstown and you may need to take a taxi, but if you have a rental car it's no problem and there is adequate space for parking. My only complaint would be that the house was very cold. Even with individual space heaters in the guest rooms, I had some cold mornings.
