Everything looks better in frost...

... in the swimming pool all day, just can't win sometimes...

Sunday I was driving home, and got up early and was met by an equally intense frost... I missed the mist over the river, but it was pretty, honest.

Day 13 - 4 miles in the BMW / 16 miles on foot

... the path which turned in to a bit of a scramble and started to get very steep and slippery so we decided it was not worth risking a slip as the drop was quite significant and we would have probably broken a few bones, and made a hasty retreat.

Walking back from the loch to the car, which was about 7 miles we were startled by the passing of a fighter jet through the glen at almost ground level, leaving us with our ...

Day 12 - 80 miles in the BMW

... the time I got everything sorted and left the hostel it was around midday so I decided to head over to Aviemore via Loch Ness for a few pictures, first stopping at Foyers Falls and then a few places along Loch Ness south shore.

I arrived at Aviemore at around 15:00 and checked in to the Bunk House, got my room sorted and then went for a walk around the town, stopping at Tescos for some food for dinner. Yep, pasta and chicken again!

The Northern Capital of Inverness

My only recollection of Inverness prior to this visit was a ditty that Garth Glover, an old Ayr basketballer, used to sing .

Four and twenty virgins went up to Inverness
And when the day was over there were four and tewnty less.

The drive to Inverness was also spectacular and included the famous Loch Ness. We did the obligatory Loch Ness cruise but no sign of Nessy.

The highlight for me of Inverness ...

Aviemore - Loch an Eilean

Spent yesterday walking through Scottish terrain. Unfortunately the weather wasn't sunny but it wasn't raining so since coming to the UK I have come to know that as 'a good day'. I have to admit it, but any day that doesn't rain I consider a good day of weather too. How quickly standards change..

Time has flown by here in Scotland. Back down to London tomorrow and off to India Wednesday. This is quite possibly the most boring blog entry ever, but the photos should at least be ok

Day 7 - Oh what a beautiful day!

... access and hot showers!

What makes me smile today:

More blackberries - these ones were really ripe

The family picking berries on The Black Isle who told me that there were some "really big blaeberries" just down the road and asked if they were safe to eat.  Having found said berries I felt it would be cruel not to go back and tell them that they were sloes and that the kids might not want to eat them raw!

The Sleeper Train from London to Inverness

... Euston Station, I had decided it would be wise not to take my rucksack to work that morning, and instead to travel home to Wimbledon in the afternoon, freshen up, collect my belonging and head back to Euston. It seemed reasonable to want to start my journey fresh, and besides, my train didn't leave until 9 in the evening.

As usual, and after 32 years I’m quite used to this, the whole world conspired against me. It was a hot and humid summer’s day, and the train ...
