... it was so close made up for its shortcomings,

We drove home without mishap but it took us about 1 ½ hours to get through the motorway toll at Ventomiglia on Saturday afternoon. The Côte d'Azur is heaving with tourists and it is virtually impossible to go anywhere as you cannot park, have to queue for everything and are anyway unlikely to get in. The food is overpriced and the service is slow and don’t even think about going to the beach as you ...

... the question that most Tourists ask "Is that George's Villa", but alas it is a long way up the lake towards Como.

We stop at the Villa del Balbianello for a tour of the estate that is now owned and maintained by the Fondo (Foundation) Ambiente Italiano and was previously owned by Guido Monzino a weathy Milanese Businessman who was a dedicated explorer and collector. He was too busy climbing Mount Everest, trecking to the North Pole or exploring South America so ...

We’ve even grown attached to the church with the bell we’ve named ...

... payment. After dropping them off at Varenna the Ferry continued and we were soon pulling into Bellagio and it is a brilliant sight. Our Hotel is only 50 meters from the ferry terminal so we check in, but as our room isn't ready, we go for a walk along the promenade, have a sandwich and a cold beer for lunch and watch all the beautiful tourists walk by.

We check in and our room is just what I requested, third floor, northern ...

... s probably the residual Grappa from last night - Ha! The 5 min cab ride to my Verona hotel was jaw dropping, churches, ancient walls, arches and streets so tiny you would think they were for pedestrians only. Nothing prepared me for the hotel and the arena just steps away from the front door. A roman arena in the city's largest square with restaurants, cafés, bars and high end stores. Leave it to the Italians to put L Vuitton, Channel, Dolce Gabana ...
