... so we jumped on the train, after proudly purchasing tickets with no help from locals. A couple of stops later we decide which exit to leave the station by... and OMG - we walk up these steps and there looming in front is the Duomo itself. No words here. Just magnificent.

And then we are accosted by about 30 people trying to sell selfie sticks, good luck bracelets, scarves,... the sellers are everywhere, they are persistent, and actually a little but ...

... of the lake to Domaso to rent a yacht and get some sailing in. Bliss....



A week has gone by so quicky, and we have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, especially after 5 weeks apart. Renting a runabout boat, Anne's idea, transformed the trip and has been fantastic, crusing around at our own pace and agenda.

... long and largely incomprehensible story in Italian and broken English about a boat he was on that went to Melbourne. He seemed to like talking to me more because I could knew some Italian and he persisted to talk to me even when the others had moved away, scared by the strangeness of the encounter. Finally I managed to grasp his hand in a solid farewell gesture and assert that we must leave. He hoped to see us again...we hoped not. At least I got to practise some Italian! ...

... and minimalist and had a great feel to it. The owners were very friendly. We both had pasta with grilled zucchini, cherry tomatoes, bacon and cheese with green salad, bread and wine for John. Very fresh and tasty and unexpectedly cheap. Simple, but one of the best meals we have had on our travels.
Tomorrow we are up early for an 8am three hour walking tour of Milan beginning with a viewing of Leonardo de Vinci's Last Supper ...

... mixed in with a CBD area of very modern skyscrapers. Our location was great and we could pretty much walk everywhere around central Milan including a great running track around one of the main parks in the city centre. Milan is all about the fashion though, and after surviving a few near misses with shopping sprees surely we won't get through Milan unscathed. I was let loose on the shops first early on day 2, but only managed to get Oli's birthday present, mainly because after ...
